Hibrides: Small Embodied Data

DARTS research group collaborates with the Axolot Collective on a encounter to promote reflection on technology in contemporary art and culture. This first edition includes artist residencies, open talks, conferences, experimental performances, workshops and live coding concerts around two central themes:

  • AI and Small Data Sets
    The use of small datasets raises awareness of the ethical, environmental and bias challenges inherent in large datasets. This focus goes beyond the creative sphere: it includes ethical and sustainable data practices, and aligns the project with broader principles of responsible technological engagement. Can small data sets collected, curated and analyzed by artists offer an alternative to the statistical repetition of artificial intelligence algorithms? What creative possibilities arise from the use of these data? What are the tensions and resistances between algorithms and artistic practices working with small data sets? Can the use of them provide a more energy-efficient alternative to models trained on large amounts of information?
  • Embodiment and Electronic Interfaces
    The body as a theme in artistic practices can unfold different perspectives on subjectivation and identity. From a point of view that seeks to understand the technologies we use and inhabit, this theme aims at reflections that combine sensitive methodologies (thinking with and about the body), electronic circuits, open source technologies and issues related to contemporary socio-technical conditions. How do critical reflections on identity unfold at the intersections of the body and electronic interfaces? How does open source thinking influence research that considers the body and technology as essential tools and frameworks? How do embodied and technological artistic practices affect contemporary socio-technical systems?
